She says: “There’s a whole host of fun, new and exciting Christmas trends for 2024 that actually already play on the idea of a ‘tacky’ Christmas.

“From maximalist trees to oversized decorations and a throwback to the disco era with a touch of glitz, glamor and bright colours, tacky is SO back.

Red and gold, not beige and cold

A simple, classic yet elegant way to bring a tasteful Christmas into your home is to decorate with red and gold baubles.

It’s an easy and stylish way to pay tribute to the Christmas spirit of the 2000s.

Ola says: “When you think back to your childhood Christmases, your memories will probably be a warm and fuzzy haze full of twinkling rainbow lights, mismatched baubles and vibrant colors and glitter.

“And red decorations can be used to bring back this feeling while still being trendy.

“Choose red baubles for your tree, complemented by glitzy gold accents to add some style and depth.”

Maximalism is in, minimalism is out

Gone are the days of sparse, understated Christmas decorations, the experts have revealed.

This year it’s all about the more, the merrier and the more layered our decor is with many different textures, colors and shapes.

They suggest, “Start with your tree as the focal point.

“Think oversized baubles, lavish garlands and ornaments that don’t necessarily ‘match’ but create a sense of joyful chaos.

“Add glittering ribbons and vintage lights to create a striking, eye-catching tree that is a visual feast.

“Don’t forget to decorate other parts of the house too: we’re talking mantelpieces, doorways, windows and even stair railings that can all get the maximum treatment!”

Nine Christmas Decor Mistakes That Will Make Your Home Look Cheap

AN interior designer has highlighted that there are nine ways your Christmas decorations can make your home look cheap.

Paulina Wojas, interior designer at Beautiful Chairs, reveals what to avoid and how to create a tasteful, festive atmosphere in your home instead.

  1. Mixed themes – Displaying Christmas decorations that don’t fit together can create a hideous appearance, making the home look cheap.
  2. Novelty decorations – These also lack timelessness and are therefore a bad investment.
  3. Wrong size Christmas tree – A tree that is too big or too small can disrupt the aesthetic of the room and make the space look cheap.
  4. Overdecorating – Taking a less-is-more approach is the key to a beautiful home for Christmas.
  5. Relief – While colorful lights in white, red, blue or green may seem festive, they can often make your home look cheap.
  6. Low quality fake greenery – Faux greenery that looks obviously fake or too shiny can cheapen your overall decor.
  7. Messy Christmas tree – A tree overloaded with mismatched ornaments can look less elegant and more like a mismatched collection.
  8. Excessive use of tinsel – An overabundance of it can give your decor an “outdated, kitschy feel,” making your space look like a cheap store display.
  9. Using too many glitter items – While glitter is festive, when used in excess it can easily create an overly flashy, tacky aesthetic, making decorations look more like party favors than sophisticated Christmas decorations.

Figurines for festive memories

According to the experts, processing figurines is a great way to give a playful and nostalgic touch to your interior.

Ola explains: “Think Santa Clauses, snowmen, nutcrackers or even quirky Christmas gnomes!

“These figurines have been a staple of ‘tacky’ Christmas decorations for decades.

“They bring a sense of whimsy and tradition that is impossible to replicate with modern, minimalist decor.

“Not only do they provide a fun conversation piece, but these figurines also make your Christmas display feel very personal and reminiscent of those cherished Christmases from your childhood.

“If you want to join in the colorful chaos of a 2000s Christmas theme and relive the magic of your childhood, why not take a look at EZ Living Furniture’s Christmas range and see what you can work with?”
