I’m ashamed of my mother because I missed my kids’ first day of school to get my hair done
A 12-year-old mother was forced to take revenge on internet trolls after missing her children’s first day of school to get their hair cut.
Zoe Sullivan, 46, her husband Ben, 49, and their 12 children make up one of the largest families in the country.
The couple have Elisabeth (19), Olivia (17), Noah (14), Evangeline (12), Tobias (11), Agnes (7), Joseph (5), Florence (2) and two sets of twins: Charlotte and Isabelle (16) and Leah and Erin (8).
The large group live in a six-bedroom house in Burghead, Moray, where they regularly document their hectic lives. their YouTube channel.
After a summer full of trips to the beach, playing in the yard and family outings, Tuesday was the first day back at school for the children.
Zoe shared photos of the youngest four – Toby, Leah, Erin and Agnes – and revealed it was their first day at a new primary school.
She said, “They were all a little bit scared, but excited at the same time.”
She added: “The older kids who were in high school were much less enthusiastic, and there were absolutely no pictures!!
“I spent the morning at the hairdresser!!
“Without realizing that the dates would clash, I had already booked my appointment a long time ago. As a result, I was unable to take the little ones to school this morning.”
Despite Zoe spending the entire morning doing her daughters’ hair and getting their lunch boxes and school uniforms ready, she was still criticised for not taking her little ones to school.
One person commented: “Awesome but I can’t believe Zoe didn’t do so well. First day at a new school. As a mother I just don’t get it.”
A second wrote: “You said the little ones were scared of a new school, but you still decided to get a haircut?”
A third added: “I find it all so sad.”
In an attempt to stop the tirade of insults, Zoe responded: “Before anyone else gets on that motherly shame bandwagon again, if I had known, I probably would have rescheduled.
“But because it’s so hard to get an appointment with my hairdresser, because she’s so amazing, I honestly didn’t want to miss it.
“Am I a bad mother? According to the Facebook police, yes.”
Pointing out a possible double standard, she added: “Ben wasn’t there when I picked him up. Does that make him a bad dad too?? Or is it best to just ‘mom shame’ him?”
“Anyone who knows me knows that I love my children more than life itself.
“I actually only left ten minutes before they left and I did feel guilty about not going, but I made sure they had everything they needed, everything was labeled, their hair was done, they were all set up and Ben was more than capable of showing them around.
“Plus, I probably would have gotten emotional because I hate that they’re going back, so it was probably for the best either way.
“Shaming someone just to make yourself feel better is not cool and being mean is not good for anyone.
“The little ones all had a fantastic day, especially Toby who made a whole bunch of new friends.”
And the furious supermom immediately received support from other mothers.
Baby #13?
Mother of 12 Zoe Sullivan sleeps just four hours a night, but would never say never to baby number 13.
The super mom gets up at 4:45 a.m. every morning, after not going to bed until around midnight the night before.
She said, “I can’t stand being late, and I can’t stand being rushed.
“When I get up early, I can take a shower, think about what I’m going to do that day and get ready.
“I also like to do some chores before the kids go to school, so I can do two loads of laundry and things like that. It lets me get more done.
“I don’t go to bed until around midnight, so I average four or five hours of sleep a night – on a good night.”
But she would still “never say no” to another child, adding: “I think the more children we had, the more we realised how much we love having a big family.
“And honestly, the more you have, the easier it gets, in a weird way.”
One of them said, “You can’t do right or wrong with some people. You are a wonderful mother and all your children are very loved, it shows.”
Another chimed in: “You’re doing great, Zoe. Some people will never be happy with anything you do.
“If you do too much in their eyes, you spoil them. And if you don’t, you’re a bad mother.
“Ignore them. You’re doing your best. Your love for them shines through. Everyone can see it.”
“So all the work you put into getting them to school doesn’t count?” a third fumed.
“Some people just can’t help it, even though I’m sure they’re not perfect.”
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Ben dropped them off and you picked them up, a perfect combination. You were both there in some way on their first day.”
