I’m on TV but begging people to buy my old clothes on Vinted to fund a £1000 treat
GOGGLEBOX star Roisin Kelly has revealed she is selling all her old clothes to help buy a £1,000 gift.
The TV beauty and boyfriend Joe Kyle became the first Scot in six years to appear on the hit Channel 4 show, after making their debut in 2022.
Since joining Gogglebox, Roisin has built up a large following on social media.
The style icon is no stranger to impressing fans with her unique fashion sense.
And now fashion lovers have the chance to shop her wardrobe, as she is selling items from her wardrobe on Vinted.
The online marketplace allows people to buy and sell second-hand clothing, shoes and accessories.
Uploading items to the app is completely free and Vinted doesn’t take a cut of sellers’ profits, instead charging buyers a small fee for each item.
Speaking about her Vinted sales pitch, Roisin said: “I used to [do] ASOS used to collect stuff all the time, but I’ve moved and can’t afford to get stuff through ASOS all the time anymore.
“Every summer I have a box of summer clothes that I put in my closet and then I don’t even wear them, then I put them back in the box and take them out the next summer. The cycle has to stop.
“I’m going to New York in November and I really want to go on a helicopter flight but it costs £1,000 so I have to sell all my clothes on Vinted so I can go on the helicopter.”
Roisin has already racked up over 100 five-star reviews on the app and currently has 39 items on sale, including a white ASOS dress for £45.
She’s also selling a leopard print dress from Zara for £12, silver ASOS jeans for £8 and an abstract midi dress from Sainsbury’s for £12.
She urged buyers to buy more, joking: “If you buy my stuff, you will have my deepest gratitude.
“And now you know what my house smells like, and I always like to know that about people.”
Online marketplaces like Vinted and Depop have millions of users in the UK and the cost of living crisis is only making them increasingly popular.
Financial pressures on UK households saw sales of second-hand goods rise 15 per cent to £21 billion in 2022.
According to research commissioned by review site Trustpilot, one in six people say they now buy second-hand items.
So this is the perfect time to make some extra money on sites like Vinted.
According to the popular platform, sellers do not have to pay taxes on the revenue they generate through the site.
According to HMRC, this is because the sale of personal items through platforms such as Vinted is not taxable in itself.
“If the money a member earns on Vinted in a year is less than the amount he paid for the items he sells, he does not have to pay tax,” a Vinted spokesperson explains.
”In general, only sellers who ‘trade’ for profit have to pay taxes.
Do I have to pay tax on items I sell on Vinted?
FAST tax facts from the Vinted team…
- The only time an item is taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then you can use your £3,000 tax-free capital gains allowance to offset it.
- Generally, only business sellers who trade for profit (buying goods with the intention of selling them for more than they paid for them) are required to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can take advantage of a £1,000 tax-free allowance, which has been in place since 2017.
