I’m the British Tetris champion – and here are my top tips for packing your car for a summer family day out
Dreading the idea of packing the car for your family holiday? Don’t worry, a British Tetris master is here to help.
DanVThe country’s reigning champion in Tetris – the computer game where you have to stack shapes neatly – has joined forces with Dacia to ‘give his top tips’ for ‘successfully packing the trunk of your car with minimal stress’, drawing on his years of Tetris experience.
His first tip? Organization.
The champion says: ‘Just like in Tetris, recognising patterns and knowing the shapes you might encounter is essential – identify and categorise your items by size and type. This way you know exactly where to put your beachwear, snacks and other essentials so that everything fits perfectly.’
Second on the list? DanV says: ‘Keep everything compact. In Tetris, creating gaps can lead to awkward situations, and packing is no different. Compress flexible items like clothing to minimize the space they take up. By maximizing every inch of your luggage, you can fit more items into smaller spaces without leaving gaps.’

Just as the Tetris matrix has a “limited space” and “overloading” means “game over,” so too does a trunk.
DanV says: ‘Pack light. Avoid packing unnecessary items such as heavy jackets. Focus on bringing only the essentials and summer essentials such as shorts and sandals to keep your luggage light and manageable.’
DanV’s advice comes as almost a quarter of British holidaymakers admit they struggle to fit everything into their car, according to a Dacia survey of 2,000 adults.
One in five Britons say they have had to leave belongings behind due to a lack of luggage space.
According to 12 percent of Britons, packing the car is the most stressful part of a weekend away.
And it could lead to family feuds.
Just under 20 percent of Britons say a forgotten holiday item has led to an argument.
Luke Broad, Dacia brand director for the UK, said: ‘With almost a quarter of Britons struggling to pack their cars for summer holidays, we understand the challenges that can arise before the trip has even started! At Dacia, we focus on the essentials and celebrate the spirit of adventure.’
‘That’s why we’ve teamed up with British Tetris champion DanV, who brings his expertise with game-inspired top tips on how to pack your car efficiently for a smooth and enjoyable journey. We want to make packing your car a breeze this summer and continue to focus on creating unforgettable memories.’
