In the heart of the tribe, Rahul Gandhi again shows his red book and promises to conduct a caste census – Times of India
Rahul was speaking at his first meeting in the heart of the tribe Santhal Pargana for the second phase of the parliamentary elections on November 20. Santhal Pargana was in the limelight as the BJP made the alleged influx from Bangladesh a key polling point, claiming that most of such illegal immigrants had settled in this region.
Rahul showed off his famous red-bound book on the Constitution and reiterated that BJP and RSS often speak along caste and communal lines to divide the nation. “I want to tell you that BJP and RSS do not believe in the Constitution and its virtues. This isn’t just any red-colored book; it contains the values of Bhimrao Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Birsa Munda…… They talked about uniting the country and its people, but Modiji, BJP and RSS are doing exactly the opposite,” Rahul said in the Mehrama of the Mahagama constituency in Godda district of Santhal Parganas.
Questioning the Prime Minister and the BJP, Rahul said, “They will not talk about jobs, unemployment, farmers’ unrest or the plight of Dalits, OBCs, tribals and other underprivileged communities.” “Their only agenda is to create divisions between communities, castes and religions as it is convenient for them to keep people distracted while they work for their billionaire friends like Adani and Ambani,” Rahul said in his oft-repeated claims.
Rahul then cited promises made in Congress’ Jharkhand manifesto, including a caste census and scrapping the 50% ceiling on reservations. “We are committed to a caste census in Jharkhand as this will be a game changer for the country and provide an understanding of the reality. Though Modiji will never do it, we will. Moreover, we will increase OBC, ST and SC reservations, which are the BJP government has been shortened in the past. In Jharkhand, the BJP has reduced OBC reservation from 27% to 14%, which we will restore. Similarly, ST reservation will be increased from 26% to 28%, and SC reservation from 10% to 12%,” Rahul added.
