A Cathay Pacific flight from Boston has been forced to make an emergency landing after smoke was reported in the cabin minutes after takeoff.

Flight CX811, an A350-1000 bound for Hong Kong, stopped climbing at about 5,000 feet, according to aviation news site Air Live.

The crew declared a state of emergency about 30 minutes after taking off from Boston Logan International Airport at 2:04 a.m. EST.

According to reports, the flight then stopped over Massachusetts Bay to dump fuel before returning to BOS Airport.

Flight trackers show it orbiting the East Coast several times before returning.

Air traffic controllers cleared it to land at the airport just over an hour after it took off, and it was met by emergency vehicles after landing.

This is a groundbreaking story, more to come.
