A Halloween party in California ended with the murder of a 19-year-old woman, shocking even seasoned investigators.
The murder of Leilani Marie Beauchamp, carried out by a jealous brother-sister duo, culminated in a chilling statement between the siblings that sends shivers down the spine: “We killed someone.”
It was October 30, 2021, when Beauchamp's disappearance at a Halloween party in Sacramento set off a chain of events that revealed a horrific story of jealousy, betrayal and murder.
The young woman's life was cut short in a manner as senseless as it was brutal, with Beauchamp's final moments spent in the bed of Jessica Quintanilla's ex-boyfriend – a fact that became central to the unraveling of the crime.
Supposedly smart and well-liked, Leilani had just left the Halloween party, not knowing that it would lead her to a fatal encounter with Jessica Quintanilla.
The victim accompanied two active-duty Air Force pilots to their home in nearby Fairfield, not knowing she would never return.
In a fit of rage, 24-year-old Jessica Quintanilla confronted Beauchamp and her ex-boyfriend seeking answers. But during the confrontation, a gun was fired.
Quintanilla would later claim on the witness stand that the shooting was an accident, explaining how she was hungover and upset, and that the gun went off during the altercation.
Jessica Quintanilla, 24, was sentenced to 25 years to life for the murder, while her brother Marco Quintanilla, 30, became an unwitting accomplice and received four years in prison

Police said Beauchamp was murdered at this home in Fairfield, California before her body was dumped 130 miles away in Salinas, California.
But prosecutors painted a much darker picture, calling the act a deliberate murder driven by a jealous rage.
After the fatal shooting, Quintanilla's brother, Marco Quintanilla, 30, became an unwitting accomplice.
The two siblings, along with one of the airmen who lived in the house, removed Leilani's body in Salinas, more than 130 miles away.
At some point during their attempt to cover up the crime, Jessica reportedly turned to her brother and said the chilling words, “We killed someone.”
Her words haunted her as they echoed in the courtroom, with Marco later testifying in court that he initially thought his sister's words were a macabre joke. They were anything but.
The case quickly unraveled when authorities discovered the murder scene in Fairfield after Leilani was reported missing.
The pilot who helped remove the body led investigators to the site and was later granted immunity in exchange for his testimony.
His account contained damning details, including the chilling threats Jessica allegedly made to silence him. “She told me she would kill me if I said anything,” he testified.
Leilani Marie Beauchamp, 19, said to have been smart and well-liked, had just left the Halloween party, not knowing that it would lead her to a fatal encounter with Jessica Quintanilla.
“Leilani was truly a blessing to us and her beloved friends. We will miss her smile, her laugh, her caring attitude, her strong will, her passion for life and the love she brought to our family. We love you, Leilani,” the family said
Jessica Quintanilla's attorney, William Alan Welch, described the shooting as a tragic accident and claimed it was “the ultimate heat of passion action.” But the jury was not swayed.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Paul Sequeira suggested the motive may have stemmed from a complex love triangle.
In November, Jessica was convicted of murder and has now been sentenced to 25 years to life.
Marco Quintanilla, meanwhile, was sentenced to four years for complicity in the crime.
The victim's family was left shattered. In a heartfelt statement, they described Beauchamp as 'a blessing' whose light had gone out far too soon.
“Leilani was truly a blessing to us and her beloved friends,” the family said. “We will miss her smile, her laugh, her caring attitude, her strong will, her passion for life and the love she brought to our family. We love you, Leilani.”
