Trump issues more executive orders as Cabinet picks march toward confirmation: Live updates

Donald Trump kicks off an action-packed first full day as the 47th president of the United States.

He spent the evening after his inauguration partying alongside First Lady Melania while hitting three official balls in downtown Washington, D.C.

Trump is already facing backlash over some of his sweeping executive actions, including shutting down the controversial CBP One app and renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

He also withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Accords and the World Health Organization as some of his very first actions.

On Tuesday, he plans to meet with Republicans in Congress to map out their MAGA agenda in the first 100 days, and he also plans to host a press event on his infrastructure plans.

Two of his top Cabinet picks — Elise Stefanik as U.N. ambassador — and Doug Collins, who heads the Department of Veterans Affairs, are in the Senate today for their confirmation hearings.

By Katelyn Caralle, senior US political reporter

Donald Trump signed a raft of executive orders on Monday in a massive crackdown on day one of his second term.

The orders and actions cover a wide range of issues, from immigration policy to gender identity issues and even addressing the flow of water from showerheads.

DailyMail.com takes a look at the most notable and important orders Trump signed in the hours after his inauguration.

Donald Trump secured legislative victory just hours into his second term when the Senate passed the Laken Riley Act

Donald Trump's agenda is headed to Congress after the Senate on Monday passed the Laken Riley Act, a bill that makes it easier to deport illegal immigrant criminals.

The legislation, which passed the House of Representatives 264 – 159 last week with bipartisan support, was named in honor of the late Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, 22, who was killed by repeat offender Jose Ibarra.

Trump's grip on power tightens as Marco Rubio, the Cabinet's first choice, is unanimously confirmed by the Senate

Marco Rubio has been unanimously confirmed by the Senate as the next Secretary of State.

The Florida senator, 53, and former presidential candidate, was confirmed with a resounding bipartisan vote from his colleagues and himself.

The Senate then decided to immediately consider Rubio's nomination before its 100 members. Even the Republican from Florida was allowed to vote on his own fate.

Rubio's nomination follows a Senate tradition of confirming at least one member of the presidential Cabinet on Inauguration Day, dating back to Bill Clinton's first day in office.

Normally, the nominees are important to national security, and as the incoming head of the State Department, Rubio will have a lot to do in that sense.

Donald Trump and Melania hit three inaugural balls in one night as First Family dazzles the dance floor to celebrate MAGA's return to greatness

Donald and Melania Trump hit three inaugural balls in one night in Washington DC to mark the start of a new MAGA era.

The newly sworn-in president and his glamorous first lady started off at the military-themed Commander in Chief ball before heading to the nearby Liberty Ball, where they danced on stage with the entire Trump family. They then drove to Union Station for the Starlight Ball.

“We needed three because we have so much support,” Trump told the crowd at the Liberty Ball at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Monday night.

The crowd waited for hours to see the returned commander in chief and he and the first lady were finally played by the United States Marine Band at the Commander in Chief ball just before 10:30 p.m.

Melania debuted a leggy, white and black dress, which was custom made by Hervé Pierre, the same designer who created her inaugural 2017 outfit.

They did their first slow dance to The Battle Hymn of the Republic, played by the United States Marine Band, before being joined on stage by Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha.

Both couples then danced with members of the military, as is customary.

Through his social media platform Truth Social, the newly appointed president publicly fired several senior employees in an unprecedented uproar.
