Aaron Glenn reportedly wants to keep Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets, it is claimed.

The 41-year-old quarterback has been coy about his NFL future and hinted he could retire after failing to reach the playoffs with the Jets, but has consistently insisted he is the first will speak to whoever his new head coach is.

It was announced on Wednesday that that man is Glenn, who will leave his defensive coordinator post with the Detroit Lions to take over in New York.

If Rodgers returns, the Jets will owe him a $35 million bonus option if he brings him back, meaning it's no small matter for Glenn to take over.

But according to Michael Kay on his ESPN show in New York, the early signs are that he wants to involve Rodgers.

'Word is going around, there are leaks. I heard that no matter what they pay Aaron Glenn, Aaron Glenn has made it known that he would like to keep Aaron Rodgers,” Kay said.

Kay continued, “I really believe this is the right way to go. I'm not enamored with Aaron Rodgers, off or on the field. But I need a better answer if you're going to tell Aaron Rodgers, “Okay, we're doing good.”

“If you don't bring back Aaron Rodgers, there's going to be a big hit anyway. Dead money. But if you bring him back, there's still a cap hit, but you know what, at least you have a quarterback.

“He wasn't coached after Game 5 this year, and with all due respect to Robert Saleh, who is getting some traction in his head coaching interviews, I don't think he was coached in the first five games anyway.

You know when it really became clear that he wasn't coached at all? When he was allowed to miss the mandatory mini-camp. That was a little window into the fact that he was running the organization.”

Rodgers missed that three-day camp as part of a trip to Egypt and was fined by the franchise.

Rodgers said in July: “It is what it is. I am an adult, I knew what I was getting into, I knew what penalty would come and I also knew how much I wanted to be in Egypt.

“I wish there hadn't been a scheduling conflict, but it was what it was.”
