New research has revealed the staggering number of cups of tea Brits consume every morning before heading to work: a staggering 53 million.
A survey of 2,000 adults found that 12 percent have a drink as soon as they wake up in bed – and 10 percent have three or more cups to start the day.
This all equates to a whopping 2,682 million liters of the nation's favorite drink – enough to fill four Olympic swimming pools.
More than half (59 percent) admit that they can't start the day properly until they've enjoyed their first mug, with 63 percent rarely or never skipping the refreshing ritual of their morning routine.
And there's a good reason for that, as 64 percent say tea makes them more productive and 78 percent say it gives them a little pick-me-up and a morning boost, leaving them well prepared for the day.
In fact, 37 percent happily ditch the news to have a morning tea, while 35 percent sacrifice making their bed to enjoy the hot drink when they're short on time.
Amazingly, one in ten will even forego brushing their teeth just to start the day with a cup of tea.
The survey, which was commissioned by PG Tips, also found that 32 percent feel refreshed after their morning brew, and 28 percent feel alert.

The survey shows that building tea is the overwhelming favorite in the morning (52 percent), followed by black tea (16 percent) and green tea (10 percent) (file image)
A quarter (26 percent) rely on it for comfort, and as the day progresses, 41 percent use tea as a reset button, helping them refocus on their next task or activity.
However, when tea drinkers don't get their morning cup, 27 percent admit to feeling weak and 23 percent are tired.
Eleanor Barker, from Lipton, said: 'Tea is the hero of British mornings, and this research highlights why we at PG Tips encourage the nation to start their day in the best way possible – with a deliciously refreshing cup of tea.
'Whether it's a moment to take a break before the day starts or a quick cup of coffee to boost your productivity, tea is at the heart of a good start to the day.'
It also emerged that building tea is the overwhelming favorite in the morning (52 percent), followed by black tea (16 percent) and green tea (10 percent).
But whichever tea they choose, Brits spend an average of almost nine precious minutes each morning sampling its flavours, with 59 per cent making it a point to sip slowly and really enjoy the moment.
Nearly half (48 percent) of those surveyed via OnePoll said that if they could only drink one cup of tea a day, they would do so before 9 a.m., and 29 percent would enjoy it before noon.
However, the average time that tea lovers first turn on the kettle for their morning boost is 7:30 am.
