An Australian YouTuber's claim that he was fined $1,033 for cooking a steak while driving has been exposed as a lie.
Millionaire entrepreneur Jackson O'Doherty shared an image of a fine he said he received after cooking a steak while behind the wheel on the Gold Coast.
“No driving or cooking,” he said on his Instagram.
He uploaded a photo, claiming it was taken by a cell phone camera, showing him flipping a steak on a camping gas stove on his dashboard.
Mr O'Doherty said he was also given four penalty points for the offense of 'driver uses frying pan' and 'handheld/resting on body'.
Mr O'Doherty told Daily Mail Australia explaining the stunt that he had seen a 'TikTok of a man claiming to be a meat eater'.
“So now all I eat is steak and I was running late for a meeting that day so I decided to cook on the go,” he said.
But Mr O'Doherty is a known prankster and the Department of Transport and Main Roads has confirmed the stunt was 'fake'.
A Youtuber recently fooled many with this post on Instagram
“This infringement notice may be false, but the reality of dangerous driving is not,” the Ministry of Transport and Main Roads said on its Facebook page.
'Cooking while driving? That's a hard no from us. It is not only illegal, but also seriously dangerous.'
Mr O'Doherty's 2.2 million Instagram followers found humor in the post with fellow influencer Troy Williams, aka Troy Candy, commenting on the post: 'Only you'.
“It's not often my friend spends a thousand dollars on a steak,” Mr. O'Doherty replied.
Another commenter said it was “high steak riding at its finest.”
One of O'Doherty's followers even suggested he should not have been fined or given demerit points.
“I would like to see where in our laws it says this is a punishable offence,” she said.
One Instagram user replied: 'bruh, both hands are off the wheel and he's not looking at the road, clearly very illegal, funny too haha'.
Jackson O'Doherty claimed he was fined for cooking a steak while driving, but it was a joke
However, some social media followers were immediately on his trail.
'This is fake by the way. “I didn't understand the 'resting body' part, it didn't make sense,” one person wrote.
Then I noticed that FRYING PAN is in a different font. They just took this photo from a balcony/rooftop, edited it to look like a cell phone camera photo and turned it into a cell phone violation.”
Mr O'Doherty's social media antics have proven lucrative and last year he surprised his mother to tears by paying off her mortgage.
“I wrote that down six or seven years ago when I was still living with Grandma,” he said.
“I said I'm going to pay off the mortgages, I'm going to help my family and I did that.”
Mr O'Doherty, who has 11 million Facebook followers, is no stranger to lavish events and he rented out Dreamworld in October to celebrate his annual 'unique' Halloween party with 500 of his friends.
