Joey Barton, 42, has arrived at the court accused of attacking his wife Georgia Barton after a heavy drinking session.
The former football player is said to have drunk a maximum of five bottles of wine before launching an attack on Mrs. Barton, giving her a lump on the golf -sized on her head and a bloody nose.
He was depicted this morning outside the court of Westminster Magistrates for a new hearing after an earlier trial was stopped in 2022 when Mrs. Barton withdrew her claims.
A judge ordered that proceedings are paused about concern that a trial would be unfair for Barton after officers of justice said they were not planning to ask Mrs Barton to be shown in court.
But last year two senior judges decided that the decision to stop the trial was wrong after the director of the public persecutions (DPP), Stephen Parkinson, appealed against the decision at the Supreme Court in London.
In a statement of 20 pages, Dame Victoria Sharp said that the decision of the previous judge “was in principle wrong.”
Barton was accused of taking his wife by the throat and kicking her in the head during a row outside their house in Kew, Southwest London, where they had been with two other couples in June 2021.

Barton previously denied the indictment of the abuse by hit him
Barton had denied an indictment for abuse by beating after he was arrested by the police in his house.
A month before the original planned trial, Mrs. Barton wrote to prosecutors and said that the injury was an accident and after she and her husband both had to drink 'four to five' bottles of wine.
She claimed in her letter that her injuries took place after friends tried to intervene in an argument between the couple.
The incident, on 2 June 2021, was brought to the attention of the police when Mrs. Barton made a 999 call to officers just before 11.15 pm.
The couple married in 2019 in Oxfordshire and has two children together.
Barton played for teams such as Manchester City, Newcastle, Queen's Park Rangers and Marseille, and made one performance for England in 2007.
This is a crushing new story and is updated.
