Storm Eowyn live updates: Extreme weather brings fastest ever winds to Ireland as rain sweeps across the UK

Storm Eowyn hit Britain and Ireland with hurricane force today, causing flights, trains and ferries to be canceled as gusts of 110mph pose a life-threatening threat.

Rare red weather warnings have been issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland as the storm will damage buildings, uproot trees and cause power outages.

Orange and yellow wind warnings are also in force for other parts of Britain, while several train companies have told customers not to travel today.
