A missing girl who disappeared from the street in Colombia was found dead in a river.
Laura Páez, nine, was missing since January 16 when she left her house in Chinquinquirá, a city in the central Boyacá department, to let her dog out. She didn't come back.
Paez's body was found on Tuesday, lying over the rocks on the banks of the Minero River, only a few hours after the suspect, Daniel Zambrano, was arrested and confessed to had abandoned her.
The inspection doctor's office was able to identify the body on Wednesday.
Zambrano initially told the researchers that he had sexually abused, killed and dumped Páez in an area of the River Minero, located along the border of the Boyacá and Santander departments.
He then withdrew his statement as part of an attempt to cancel the investigation, led by the Public Prosecution Service.
The brother of Páez, Diego Velandia, told Caracol Radio that neighbors claimed that Zambrano had been stalking the girl for three weeks.
The child of the child, Miriam Velandia, was working when she walked out with the dog and did not notice that she was not at home at three in the morning when she arrived.

The authorities interrupted the search for Páez when they discovered various security videos that showed that Zambrano accompanied the little girl.
One video showed Zambrano while he walked into a store with Páez on January 16 at 8.01 pm.
A second security camera showed the young girl who stood next to Zambrano and two people at 8:56 pm.
Zambrano then left with Páez in a vehicle that the police had found in an autocrosserie company on the outskirts of Boyacá.

The authorities think that Zambrano Páez took to the store before disappearing her.
“During the inspections, biological liquids and other details were found and these are assessed by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences and specialized experts,” the Public Prosecution Service said in a statement.
The Public Prosecution Service is waiting for the results before they suggest Zambrano for murder.
“We resolutely reject any form of violence that threatens the life and integrity of children,” said the office of Boyacá governor Carlos Amaya in a statement.
“The defense of their rights and the well -being of our children is an unwavering priority for this government.”
