The Dallas Cowboys have hired Brian Schottenheimer as a new head coach.
The attacking coordinator was chosen by Jerry Jones as the man who has to replace Mike McCarthy. It will be his first job as a head coach in the NFL.
“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” said Jones.
“He's no longer Brian. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. ”
The 51-year-old Schottenheimer, son of the late NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, joined the Dallas staff as an adviser in 2022 and held the title attacking coordinator while McCarthy was the play-caller in the past two seasons.
McCarthy and the cowboys separated earlier this month after his first five -year contract ended at the club. He then interviewed Chicago, but the Bears hired Ben Johnson instead.

The Cowboys also interviewed Eagles Oc Kellen Moore, former Jets HC Robert Saleh, former Vikings HC Leslie Frazier and had a conversation with Colorado HC Deion Sanders.
There is only one head coach opening in the NFL: New Orleans Saints.
Schottenheimer will be officially presented as head coach of Cowboys on Monday.
While many other teams hire exciting names to lead their franchise, fans have rejected Jones and the Cowboys since ties with Scottenheimer emerged.
Colin Cowherd from Fox even claimed that the controversial owner Jones was 'lost at sea'.
In a three -minute monologue about his show, Cowherd said: 'We look at the fall of a large American institute. He doesn't even apply for other jobs.
'Never been a head coach, never been a top candidate for head coach. He jumped through the competition, father was a legend … Nice guy, but seven to ten football teams do not leave their coach and then rent the attacking coordinator who has not mentioned a game. '
On social media, fans agreed, with one joke: 'Say what you want, but the cowboys that hire Brian Schottenheimer would be electric. Like in: that is what my bathtub will be if I drop the toaster. “
Another wrote: 'If Jerry Brian Schottenheimer actually promotes to the head coach, my wallet will strike. No tickets, no cowboys equipment, no bumper sticking, no looking forward to the training camp, nothing. Being a cowboys fan will be a test of endurance. “
One more added: 'Is Jerry awake? If he is hired, count on me for the cowboys of 2025. '
Schottenheimer wandered around in the NFL during his coaching career, starting as an assistant in 1997 at St. Louis Rams.
He was OC with the Jets, Rams, Seahawks and Cowboys – and studied with Georgia – while he also dropped out to become QB's coach at the Colts and Redskins.
His father Marty is a Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer who won NFL Coach of the Year with the Chargers in 2004 and was in charge of Arrowhead for nine years.
