Hilarious reason 101-year-old decided to renew his drivers license

A 101-year-old veteran from Texas made the hilarious choice to renew his driver's license just because he wanted to “see if I could do that.”

Thomas “Ed” Davis, a veteran who proudly served in World War II and the Korean War, lived to the age of 101.

Davis, like other drivers over the age of 85, must renew his license every two years, and despite being more than a century old, he saw no reason to stop.

“I think I probably did it to see if I could do it!” he said.

The process was much easier than he imagined.

Davis told ABC 11, “There really wasn't much going on. I filled out a form, they held up a card and said, “Can you read that?” I could read it, so that's where I sat.'

The innovation didn't seem to excite him too much, even though he's happy to be able to keep driving.

“Driving isn't that important to me right now,” he told the outlet. “All my kids are pretty close here.”

However, Davis appears to be following in the footsteps of his brother, who did the same at the age of 103.

He added that his elder brother lived to be 105 years old, and his mother was also a centenarian.

The father of five drives a Chevy pickup and says he drove several trucks for his construction company.

“Chevy has always been my favorite of trucks,” he added.

Davis admitted he had a soft spot for the '55 Oldsmobile and remembers the excitement of seeing the manufacturer show up with the curved windshield – so he bought one for himself.

“Just one of those things you do!” he said, after saying he probably couldn't afford it at the time.

Even at the age of 101, he continues to move around in things like lumber, but his journeys are usually relatively short.

Davis also admitted that he was driving well under the speed limit, but added that he doesn't drive often.

'It's okay. It's not that important in my life,” he said. “I have a lot of help here who drives me around when I have to go.”

Still, Davis' driving record is squeaky clean, with not much more than a speeding ticket some time ago.
