Philadelphia Eagles suffer huge injury blow ahead of NFC Championship game

Philadelphia Eagles Star Center Cam Jurgens is officially active for Sunday's NFC championship game against the Washington Commanders, with his role in question with a back injury.

Considered a game-time decision, Jurgens tested his back dressed in football pants during pregame warmups.

He is unlikely to start and is only expected for an emergency, according to multiple reports.

There was some confusion over Jurgens' status as rumors initially circulated that he was being kept out of the game. The Eagles did not declare him as such, making him eligible to play.

Any absence means Jalen Hurts will take snaps from a center who, for the first time in his career, isn't Jason Kelce or Jurgens with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni's plan if Jurgens is out of the game is to slide left guard Landon Dickerson to center.

Tyler Steen would join Philadelphia's starting lineup in Dickerson's usual spot.

The absence of any Jurgens is dampened by two factors, one being the Eagles' abnormal offensive depth, with one of the best units in the NFL.

Perhaps more importantly, the Commanders will also be without defensive tackle Daron Payne on Sunday, who would be in an incredible position to exploit cracks in Philadelphia's trenches.

Jurgens has been the Eagles' starting center all season and takes over for Kelce following the NFL legend's retirement last March.

The Commanders and Eagles will play for the third time this season, with each team more likely to win the division game on their home turf.

Hurts didn't play for a majority of the Commanders' Week 16 win over the Eagles, with Philadelphia's quarterback on Sunday.
