Stephen A. Smith has admitted he feels like a “damned fool” for supporting Kamala Harris in the recent presidential election.

The former vice president was defeated by Donald Trump in November after replacing Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Harris faced no competition on her way to receiving the nomination, four years after a disastrous campaign that saw her ousted from the 2020 caucuses.

During an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, Smith shocked fans with a blunt assessment of why Trump deserved a second term in the White House.

The ESPN star, who has previously teased a possible run for president, revealed how he really feels about casting his vote for Harris.

“Kamala Harris, who didn't resonate in the 2020 primaries, couldn't even get to Iowa, suddenly is the Democratic nominee,” he said.

“Then you roll up to the convention in Chicago and everyone is like 'she's a rockstar!' ' So it's like, “How did that happen?” '

Smith added: “Yes, I voted for her, a lot of people voted for her, but in the end we feel like damn fools.

“Because we supported it, we fell for the “Okiedoke” as they say. If you had a primary, chances are she wouldn't have been the Democratic nominee. '

Smith made his name in sports media but has become more vocal on political issues since Trump won the election in November.

During his appearance on Maher's show, he chided Democrats after their humiliation at the polls.

“(Trump) Man was accused twice, he was convicted on 34 felony counts and the American people still said 'he's closer to normal than what we see on the left.'

'Why? Because when you talk about the transgender community, for example, and you're talking about issues that affect less than one percent of the population, the Democratic Party came across as if that was more of a priority than other issues.

“So when he shows up on Capitol Hill on week one, he says, 'Here's what we're going to do by executive order,' even if it gets shot down by the courts,” Smith said.

'But he says, 'I kept my promise.' Then you turn and look to your left and say, “What promises have you kept?”

“What the voter out there can look at the Democratic Party and say, 'There's a voice for us, someone who speaks for us, who goes on Capitol Hill and fights the fights that we want them to fight on our behalf.'

“They didn't, and that's why those left behind are at home, and that man is back in the White House. He does what he said he was going to do.

“He promised you he was going to do these things and he walked into the office and that's exactly what he does.”
