A man stabbed in the neck outside a public residential complex in broad daylight and leads to an investigation into a murder.
Emergency services were called to Maloney Street, Eastlakes in southern Sydney at about 12.20 pm on Monday after reports from a man who was injured on the footpath.
The man died on the spot, despite the efforts of paramedics to breathe new life into him.
The victim still has to be formally identified.
A crime scene was erected and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death was launched by officers with the help of the murder team.
Dozens of uniformed and ordinary fierce investigators spent many on Monday afternoon in the cartoned off scene while forensic research into the area searched for evidence.
A police tent was also set up to protect the man's body against public.

The police remained at the crime scene for a large part of the afternoon when an investigation into murder was started
Shocked residents remembered that they heard a 'commotion' shortly before noon.
A woman was awakened by the sound of voices, including that of a man who said, “Get the dog, get the dog.”
She claimed that screaming and fighting occur a common appearance.
“It's horrible to live here,” the mother of three told the Daily Telegraph.
“It's crazy, but you expect an incident to happen at least once a month.”
His attacker generally stays in the late Monday evening.
Witnesses and everyone with information is encouraged to call crime stoppers.
