A new £ 3 million road schedule that is being introduced to ban cars from a main street to the rush has branded a 'farce' after hundreds of motorists ignored it on the first day.

Labor Council Chiefs spent four years coming up with plans to combat traffic on an inner -city road and to improve air quality.

In the last war against drivers through a labor authority, Drivers in Southampton are now excluded from part of the busy Portswood Road from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

But after years in the making and £ 3 million government financing, the new restrictions became within a few seconds after she came into force on Monday.

Unbeaking and unconscious motorists ignored the new signage and continued to use the road. In just 15 seconds, 12 vehicles were seen that run through the limited area.

Southampton City Council rolled out the 'Portswood Project' schedule on Monday as a six-month process, with buses, taxis and cyclists are allowed in the limited part.

Dissatisfied resident John Nightingale described the entire schedule as a 'farce'.

The 78-year-old lives in the neighborhood and walked to the Hoofdstraat to view the start of the process. He said: 'I lived in the area for 34 years and this is a stupid idea.

'To be honest, people will just find routes to avoid this area, and it will slow down the buses with the help of the bus gate on their other routes that the object beats.

“People don't take any knowledge of the closure. There is not enough information about the roads about this. '

He added: “I am happy to see that there is a disabled parking on the road, but if the schedule continues, there will not be much parking for those who want to pop here for a store.”

The project has also been closed by companies that fear that it will destroy trade.

Yildirim Ordu, manager at Poppins Café and restaurant in Portswood Road, said Southampton's Daily Echo: 'It will kill the street.

“Early in the morning we get so many customers, but this morning were dead because people who went to work came in to drink and a fast sandwich and they couldn't do that today.”

Labor was beaten earlier because of his national war against motorists.

In Wales, the party was forced to draw an embarrassing U-turn last year and to scrap his 20 mph blanket limit after the schedule is riot.

A stunning 470,000 people drew a petition against the much hated proposals, which were rolled out in 2023.

Wales' transport secretary Ken Skates admitted that the policy was so unpopular that even his own family had signed the petition.

The plan was eventually canned in July, to the joy of Welshe motorists.

In Birmingham, however, more than a million residents are confronted with the imminent prospect of the workers' authority of the city that introduces its own blanket restriction of 20 MPH.

The proposals are still being discussed. However, if it is lit green, it would be covered with it everywhere in Birmingham – and it could open to other cities to follow the example.

While in London the worker of the capital Sadiq Khan continues to feel that the wrath of furious motorists is approaching the controversial expansion of the Ultra low emission zone of the city, which charges motorists who govern older vehicles in the city,

In Southampton, the Local Labor Council launched a survey on the new road limiting schedule at the end of 2020 to collect people about the area.

The results were presented in December 2020 and January 2021 and discovered that of the 195 respondents were only three for the option of the bus priority.

But the plans continued to claim and led to a petition against the proposals that resulted in 2,868 signatures.

This made it the only E-Petition of 2022/2023 to reach the council.

For conservative CLLR Jeremy Moulton, the process is simply a 'mitigating exercise' for the road to eventually be closed for cars.

He mentioned drivers who donate the rules as 'inevitably'.

“People will not be aware of the closure and will continue as normal,” CLLR Moulton added.

'My view of it is when congestion causes side roads when not everyone is aware of it, when everyone knows it and it is in force, that congestion will make worse.

“The council has already made a decision and I do not agree at all.”

Tyler Jones, owner of Flagship Coffee in the High Street, was one of those who watched the 'hundreds' of cars that deposited through the closure.

The 24-year-old said: 'I don't think the process closure is strongly marked or indicated.

'I don't understand why they did not do the process in the spring or summer. It would encourage people to the area.

“But I don't think the closure will chase people away.”

A resident, who did not want to be called, also saw the scene unfold.

They said, 'The cars just seem to drive normally.

“Nobody even seems to be hesitant.

'Your options are very limited. You have to do a U-turn or go off a road that you are not familiar with. '

A resident of Southampton, who spoke online, said: “Every day a different story of total incompetence and waste of taxpayers money.”

Another local said online: “If they don't punish all these drivers, it is unfair on the legal motorists who go the long way, they must be fined unless we have two frills?”

Last year, hundreds of campaigners went on the streets of Southampton to protest against the scheme, which they fear would create a detour of a mile for 12,000 drivers.
