Top 10 best performing super funds over the last decade are revealed

The top 10 best performing super funds in the past decade have been unveiled with trade union -oriented funds that yield the strongest return, according to new data.

Superratings revealed that the top 10 that implementing funds have yielded an average of annual return that were well above the sector average of seven percent since 2014.

The best balanced option products were all super funds in the industry with board members of trade unions and had a focus of 60 to 76 percent on growth-oriented assets.

The best performer HostPlus has delivered an average annual return of 8.4 percent in recent decade, which covered the 2020 COVID pandemia and rises the most aggressive interest in a generation.

This Superfonds for tourism and hospitality workers was founded in 1988 by the United Workers Union and the Australian Hotels Association.

“Supermanation remains a long -term investment for most, where many members have several decades of returns before retirement,” Superratings said.

“It is therefore important to stay focused on returns in the longer term.”

Australian Retirement Trust, formed in 2022 as a merger between Sunsuper and QSuper for Queensland officials, was the second best performer with an average annual return of 8.3 percent.

Australiansuper, connected to the Australian Council of Trade Union, became third with an average annual return of 8.1 percent.

Unisuper, linked to the National Tertiary Education Union, was fourth with an average return of 7.9 percent.

CBUS finished fifth with an average return of 7.8 percent.

The Super Fund is chaired by the former federal treasurer Wayne Swan and has ties with the construction of the construction of forestry and maritime employees.

Vision Super, a fund for employees of the local government that is linked to the Australian Services Union, was sixth with an average annual return of 7.8 percent.

Hostplus was in seventh place with an average return of 7.7 percent.

Hesta, for healthcare and community service employees, was eighth with 7.7 percent returns.

The fund has board members of the ACTU, Australian Workers Union and Health Services Union.

Consciously super was in ninth place with a return of 7.6 percent, with a board member of the Health Services Union for a fund that covers employees of NSW and Victoria Public Sector.

Caresuper closed the top 10 with an average return of 7.6 percent, with this fund for administrative professionals of Witte Collar connected to Unionsnsw.

Nine of the top 10 funds in the past decade also yielded a double digits in 2024, thanks to a flowering stock market.

The best balanced funds delivered average returns that were better than the sector average of 11.1 percent last year.

The indexed balanced Hostplus fund had an even better annual return of 14.2 percent for 2024.

Only the moderately aggressive fund of Raiz Super did better with a return of 14.7 percent last year.

But Superratings director Kirby Rappell said that 2025 could be a year of uncertainty, after a shaky start of the year on the Australian stock market.

“Despite the uncertainty in markets, funds have consistently produced positive results for members over 2024,” he said.

“2025, however, could bring many potential pitfalls and sticking to a long -term strategy is important when we start seeing that balances fall.”
