A former senior policy adviser of the US government who flew to the UK to have sex with a girl he believed was nine years old, was imprisoned for 11 and a half years.
International investment banker Rahamim Shy, 47, traveled from New York to Bedfordshire in February 2024 to have sex with the girl who follows more than a month of planning.
This followed in correspondence with a person who described himself as 'Debbie', the girl's grandmother.
However, without the knowledge of shy, the girl did not exist and 'Debbie' was in fact an undercover officer with the Bedfordshire police.
Shy, an American citizen who lives in New Jersey, worked for the White House under President Barack Obama and State Secretary Hillary Clinton.
With the help of an online forum and later messages apps, described Shy in acute detail the disturbing deeds he wanted to do the girl and that he was fully prepared to travel to England to do this.
He described the age of the girl of nine as a 'tad' to start sexual activity, and that it was an 'honor' to be considered 'her first'.
Shy traveled to England on February 23, 2024 via Gatwick Airport before he drove to Bedford, where he met the undercover officer and was arrested immediately.
Before his process, the defense argued that Shy was in the US at the time of reports, therefore it was competent exempt from prosecution.

He was sentenced on the same day to a total of 11 years and six months in prison.
Lorraine Telford, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: 'Rahamim Shy is a predator who was completely willing to commit unspeakable acts against a child for his own sexual satisfaction.
'It was clear from his explicit conversations and items that he brought to England that he had only one intention to commit rape against what he knew was a vulnerable child.
'The fact that the child did not exist in this case makes no difference, and it is a tribute to the police operation and the subsequent persecution that shy will no longer pose an immediate threat.
“All children have the right to feel safe and protected and I hope that this conviction sends a clear message that the CPS, who work closely together in addition to law enforcement, will prosecute justice and those who try to exploit children sexually.”
