A trooper of the state of New York who claimed that he was shot on a Long Island Highway by any shooter who falsified his story, claimed public prosecutors.

Thomas Mascia, 27, left a multistate manhunt on October 30 when he said he was put in the median of the Southern State Parkway to check a disabled vehicle and was shot by a man with a dark skin in a black sedan with a Temporary new Jersey license plate, NBC News reports.

He even described the vehicle as underlying windows and tailor -made double exhaust points, according to NewSday.

“Schoten shots, shots fired, I am hit,” the trooper was consulted to his colleagues that night.

'I blood pretty well in the leg. I have a tourniquet on. '

But Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly claimed Monday that Mascia actually shot herself before reporting the shooting.

He reportedly brought the gun that he used at the house he shared with his parents and drove to the parkway to report that he was being shot.

The report “started with a Rush, who is no doubt that he was fed by the adrenaline, to find that he was responsible for attacking a state strooper,” said the Chief Inspector of the Steven James State Police at a press conference.

Researchers searched the vehicle through New York, New Jersey and even Delaware.

But within a few hours James said, “The story began to unravel.”

The State Police conducted extensive video research into trying to find that the vehicle had described Mascia, but could not find any surveillance images with the Dodge Charger.

They could also not find tire tracks on the spot to indicate a quick outing, and noted that Mascia has never marked another driver for help, reports the New York Times.

Authorities could also not find images of the recordings when they were assessed by the body video of the body, and noted that they found several .22-caliber shell-om shells on the ground.

With the help of GPS and license plate readers, however, researchers discovered that Mascia spread the shells itself and then drove to a local park where he shot himself in the leg and applied a tourniquet.

They further discovered that the bullet that hit his leg seemed to come from his own weapon.

“The evidence discovered and the absence of evidence told us everything we should know,” said Donnelly.

'Although Mascia tried to hide his spurs, it was not long before everyone discovered that his moving story was nothing more than an extensive fiction work.

“He knew the fear it would create. But he did it anyway. Or for sympathy, attention to alleviate an injured ego, what he did is unconsciously. '

Public Prosecutors also noted in a criminal complaint that his actions ensured that the State Police 'The Southern State Parkway temporarily concluded in an attempt to find the non -existent shooter, which caused alarm and discomfort for the public'.

In the meantime, Mascia was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the shot wound on his right leg.

When he was released the next day, the local police held a ceremony for him.

“Legal enforcement in Long Island celebrated that he was safe, and we sworn to find the dangerous person who shot him,” said Donnelly.

“But we would never do it. Because the shooter we were all looking for existed in the head of Mascia, in his imagination. '

Mascia, who became a state strooper in 2019, has been suspended without wages since the beginning of November – when the State Police first announced that they were investing an investigation into the shooting.

He then resigned from his position on Friday and is now confronted with charges with tampering with evidence, false reporting of a crime and official misconduct.

The former Trooper and his parents, Dorothy Mascia, 55, and former NYPD officer Thomas Mascia Sr., 62, turned into the State Police on Monday, after researchers discovered a Smith & Wesson Semiautomaitc in their house while performing a search after shoot a search.

The police say that the weapon was not the only mascia that shot itself, but if a convicted criminal may not have his father a gun.

He was charged in 1992 for illegal buying and selling cocaine in a massive corruption scandal and was fired in 1993 after he was found guilty of conspiracy for distributing.

All three Mascias have not argued guilty and have been released on their own recognition, such as the former Trooper lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, said that he has been suffering from 'untreated mental health problems' for years.

“There are much less serious and less dangerous ways to collect sympathy that do not shoot himself,” he wrote in judicial documents obtained by NBC News.

“This case is a tragedy caused by unseen and untreated psychological problems. And now a whole family suffers, as usually in such situations. '

Civil servants from the State Police also said last year that they were investigating or mascia suffered from psychological problems, but a study and psychiatric exam found “no clear red flags,” James said.

He called the behavior of Mascia 'Egregious' and said that' the reputation of law enforcement in general claims.

“What I will make clear is that the State Police, we do not tolerate such behavior, especially misconduct when a member breaks the law.”

The State Troopers Benevolent Association of New York has also released a statement stating: 'We are sad and sick by this case.

'The actions of one person may not shed a negative light on that commitment and affect the important, positive work tropers do every day throughout the state.

“Our focus remains on serving New Yorkers,” said the benevolent association. “We will leave it to the court to ensure that justice is served in this case.”

Mascia is now confronted with a maximum of four years in prison and is due in court on 5 February.
