Lloyds has announced plans to close more than 100 branches only one day after the boss of the Bank met Keir Starmer on a city stop about reviving the economy.
In one fell swoop for the Prime Minister and Chancellor Rachel Reeves, De Geldschieter, who is also the owner of Halifax and Bank of Scotland, said it will close 136 sites because it speeds up cost -saving plans.

Banks have accelerated the closure of High Street locations as more customers manage their money online. Consumer group which one? estimated that more than 6,200 sites have been closed in recent decade.
The lender will be 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax and 14 Bank of Scotland locations between May of this year and March 2026 Bijl.
That will leave 386 Lloyds branches, 281 Halifax branches and only 90 Bank of Scotland throughout the country.

It comes weeks after the FTSE 100 company said that it would enable Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers to use branches in all brands, so that the fear was fueled that closures were imminent.
Employees at the affected branches are offered jobs elsewhere in the company, Lloyds said.
It blamed the decision to close the sites on customers who personally shifted from banking to the use of mobile services.
Transactions in the episodes of the branches have fallen by an average of 48 percent in the last five years, Lloyds said.
A spokesperson for Lloyds said: “More than 20 million customers use our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their daily banking.”

She said that customers can use telephone banking, visit a community banker, a post office or bank hub or use a Halifax, Lloyds or Bank or Scotland branch.
The group said that it makes 'good progress' with a transformation plan that it launched in 2022.
Earlier this month, the company revealed plans to close offices in Dunfermline, Scotland and in Liverpool, which endangers more than 1,000 jobs.
