An ex-citizen operator, who contained the top-secret documents with the locations of British special forces in Kabul at a bus stop, is drawn up for a job such as the NATO ambassador of the UK, sources.

Angus Lapsley, 54, left the very classified Ministry of Defense (MOD) Papers – which at Kent Bus stop in June 2021.

The 50 -page file marked 'Secret UK Eyes Only', which also contained details of Elite American soldiers in Afghanistan, was picked up by a member of the audience before being handed over to the BBC.

A whitehall -source previously claimed that the unfortunate incident led to a transatlantic spit and left the American 'furious' behind, because the fears were raised that the infringement could endanger our soldier and women, many of whom were at the same location Like their British counterparts.

The diplomat is expected to get the top job at NATO years ago, but had drawn his security authorization after losing the classified file.

Since the incident he received a promotion and title of assistant-secretary-general for defense policy and planning with the diplomatic mission, and was also asked to participate in a revision of the British defenses in September last year.

Now a Whitehall bron has told the Times that Lapsley expects him to be NATO ambassador of the UK next week.

The 54-year-old will follow Sir David Quarrey, who has been represented in NATO since April 2022.

“We are pretty good at rewarding failure,” they told the publication.

It is assumed that the diplomat is well reversed among his colleagues in foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

“He left and served his fine and led the strategic defense evaluation,” another source told The Times.

But another insider, who collaborated with Lapsley at the Ministry of Defense (MOD) said that there should be real concern about the decision behind the potential appointment of ex-citizen employees to NATO.

“It cannot be emphasized how important this infringement was on security and the impact it had at the time,” they said.

Another senior defense source, who was also an earlier colleague of Lapsley, said that the move was 'deeply disturbing', and hit the FCDO and Mod annoyingly that they 'not take security seriously'.

Earlier it was revealed that the best secret mod -papers contains details of the passage of a Royal Navy Warship due to the disputed territorial waters of Crimea.

Such sensitive intelligence may not be removed from the government buildings, unless it is properly recorded and stored safely.

According to a source that spoke with The Times, Lapsley took the pages of the in-load on his desk, however, and took them home.

It was the next morning when they fell out of his bag when he ran to work, before they were found wet and piled up at the bus stop by a member of the audience in a train from Waterloo to Surrey.

They were then dried out and transferred to the BBC, where Lapsley originally claimed that none of the documents was confidential, according to a source. F

After the incident, the former diplomat had suspended his security authorization and was drawn by the processing of sensitive work and was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Despite the infringement of security, Lapsley did not lose his service job and was not prosecuted according to the official Secrets Act.

Senior civil servant, Richard Jackson was previously accused of violating the official Secrets Act and hit with a £ 2,500 after leaving top-secret papers over Al-Qaeda and Iraq in a train in 2008.

MailOnline has approached the foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for comment.
