Massive smoke cloud hangs over Melbourne as firefighters battle raging Cheltenham factory fire

Fire personnel fights a hell that has flooded a factory in the southeast of Melbourne, forcing nearby roads and a school to keep children indoors.

De Blaze was reported for the first time around 8.30 am on Thursday by an employee who said that lithium batteries on the site on Chesterfield RD in Cheltenham had inflamed.

The 3600 m² building was good when the crews arrived, but the fire was taken on the factory site.

Children at Tucker RD Primary School A few minutes away in Bentleigh were kept in classrooms on Thursday morning due to worries about air pollution.

Fire Rescue Victoria also gave a warning to residents in Cheltenham, Highett, Moorabbin and Moorabbin East about the air quality and said the smoke would be thick, but the fire was under control.

“There is currently no threat to the community, but people must continue to inform and follow the conditions,” said a spokesperson.

The cloud of smoke was clearly visible at 20 km in the Melbourne CBD.
