Man denies murdering mother-of-six found battered and dying on secluded path after early morning dog walk

A man has denied that the murder of a mother-of-six who died on a remote path after a dog walk in the early morning.

Anita Rose, 57, exerted her Springer Spaniel Bruce when she was attacked on a track near her house in Brantham, near Ipswich, Suffolk.

She was found unconscious with a serious head injury by a cyclist who drove to work at 6.25 am last year last year and died four days later in the hospital of Addenbrooke, Cambridge.

Roy Barclay, 55, of no fixed address argued not guilty of murder when he appeared on Ipswich Crown Court today via a video link from prison.

He was arrested after extensive investigations by the police and shortly after a crimewatch occupation by Mrs. Rose's family.

Simon Spence KC, defensive, said he denied being Mrs. Rose's 'attacker'.

Judge Martyn Levett postponed the hearing for a further hearing of case management on 28 February, with a process that starts on 27 May this year.

Barclay only spoke to confirm his name and date of birth during the hearing.

Mrs. Rose was said to be attacked in the remote place between a sewer work and the most important Ipswich to London Railway Line during her regular early morning walk.

She was filmed by a doorbell camera when she left at 5 in the morning from her house, where she lived with her 13 -year -old partner Richard Jones in Palfrey Heights, Brantham.

Mrs. Rose would have walked more than three miles on a network of traces and paths before she was attacked.

She was found unconscious and wore leggings and trainers on her lower half, with her dog lead wrapped around her leg, but only her bra on her upper half with her pink regatta jacket.

The cyclist who found her, and a woman-for-pastor called 999, and she was taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious head and face injuries.

Mrs. Rose, who had 13 grandchildren, remained in critical condition with her family by her side before she died on July 28.

A post -mortem by a pathologist for home office has not established its exact cause of death and further tests are being performed.

Her iPhone missed, together with her pink Ritsjack, when she was found.

The Suffolk police later said they had recovered her phone, but still hunting her jacket and her black quilted phone case with a golden crown and studdetail.

Officers have performed extensive questions since Mrs. Rose was found, including forensic searches, home-to-house questions and CCTV analysis.

They had spoken with more than 630 people and made about 90 statements by 8 August.

Questions include spreading more than 1,200 leaflets in the Brantham area and spoke with travelers in trains that passed the place where they were found.

Mrs. Rose's daughter Jessica Cox made a new appeal to information to help the police last October on BBC Crimewatch Live, shortly before Barclay was arrested.

She described her mother tears as a 'beautiful, strong, independent woman' who liked to be with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Cox added that her mother had moved to Brantham about six years ago and 'loved the area', and 'felt safe' there.

Mrs. Rose's partner Richard Jones, a truck driver, placed a tribute on social media after her death and said, “This was my beautiful Anita Absolute deep -sad love that you always and forever have in my heart.”

A tribute of her children released by the police said: “Our mother was known and loved in the community.

“She was brutally taken from us devastating too early and we were robbed with her of so much time.

“She was not only a mother of six, she was also a grandmother of 13, a long -term partner, a mother -in -law and a special friend for so many.”
