A senior Tory warned today that British lost their 'work ethics' because he pointed to the nine million that have now been 'inactive' classified.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp insisted that the country should 'lift' our game and 'compete' with rivals such as South Korea, China and India.

The combative remarks, in a BBC interview, were seized by Labor and the LIB DEMS that Mr Philp of it to have 'real copper neck' for the leveling of the criticism.

However, conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said that she believed that “everyone should work hard.”

Asked if Groot -Britain missed a belief in hard work ', Mr. Philp told the Political Thinking Podcast: “I am doing a bit.”

“There are nine million adults of working age who don't work,” he said.

'While we compete worldwide with countries such as South Korea, China, India, we need work ethic. We need everyone to contribute. '

The MP added: 'We are in … a worldwide race. That means we have to be competitive, and it means we have to work hard.

“As a country we have to pick up our game, we have to increase our game.”

The figures published this month showed that 9.3 million people were economically inactive between September and November last year.

That had fallen slightly the year before, but still 670,000 more than before the pandemic.

About a quarter of them are economically inactive because they are students, while another 30 percent have a long -term disease.

Both the tories and the labor have supported people from the benefits and at the workplace.

A spokesperson for Labor said: 'After the economic failure of the people working worse off, it costs a real copper neck before the Tory -top team tells the audience that it is really all their fault.

“They are the same old tories. They have not changed and they have learned nothing. '

Liberal -Democrat Deputy leader Daisy Cooper also criticized Mr Philp and said that his own 'work ethics' as the main secretary of the treasury under Liz Truss 'had crashed the economy in just 39 days'.

She added: 'The British public will undoubtedly follow his advice with a bucket full of salt. The conservatives could do by showing a little more humility after throwing away the economy and leaving the NHS on his knees. '

Asked about the comments from broadcasters, Mrs Badenoch said: “I think everyone should work hard, including myself.”
