Ofsted pushes ahead with plans to replace its school scoring system with one word with color -coded cards that critics have compared to a spice graph from Nando.

The Chief Inspector of the Education Rule Giver Sir Martyn Oliver is launching a consultation about the new system, with which schools in England are assessed with one or two words in eight main areas.

Ofsted's Color-Coded Scorecard will vary from 'cause concern' in red to 'exemplary' in dark green, according to the Financial Times.

It will replace the old attitude in which schools have received a general judgments of one word ',' good ',' requires improvement 'or' insufficient '.

Some have criticized this system because they are too hard and seriously harmful to the reputation of a school. A study in 2023 into the suicide of senior lecturer Ruth Perry discovered that an ofsted inspection at her primary school had 'contributed' her death.

Mrs. Perry, 53, took her own life after ofsted Caversham Primary School in reading from 'Outstanding' to 'insufficient'. The assessment said that the regulator's response to Mrs. Perry's suicide was 'defensive and complacent'.

Her sister Julia Waters said that 'urgent lessons should be learned' from her death, a message that was repeated by the then educational secretary Gillian Keegan.

At the time, Ofsted made some minor changes to reduce the pressure on school heads, such as postponing inspections through a day and developing training for all inspectors about recognizing and responding to visible signs of fear.

Last year, the Labor government deleted a single-word assessment after lobbying from teaching trade unions, which said that the system exerted intense pressure on school staff.

The new scoring system will be the biggest change since the death of Mrs. Perry, but some are still not happy with the proposed color -coded overhaul.

In November, senior figures compared an early version of the proposal with the herb ranking screen system used by food chain Nandos.

And now a source of the updated plan said: 'It's still Nandos. It is still lemon and herb, extra hot. “They then predicted that” profession becomes wild when they see these plans. “

They believe that the new system will simply add more areas for schools and teachers to receive 'hard' judgments and that it will be difficult for inspectors to make evaluations on all eight areas in one 48 -hour visit.

The eight areas are performance, leadership and governance, curriculum, developing education, personal development and well -being, presence, behavior and attitudes and inclusion.

The consultation for the plan is expected to start next week.
