Donald Trump admitted last night that Americans could feel 'pain' because of his global trade war, after Canada, Mexico and China have taken revenge.

But he defended his decision to impose radical rates on the three largest trading partners in the US, which will come into force tomorrow.

The US President argued that the consequences of his executive order 'worth the price' to protect Americans against drug trafficking and illegal immigration – two important promises he was chosen last year.

He also threatened to hit the European Union with the same taxes and repeated his call to Canada to 'become our cherished 51st state'.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham supported the rates and said that they “were designed to make these countries change their behavior.”

“If you want rates to leave Mexico and China, stop poisoning Americans, stop sending fentanyl to America,” he said.

But Minister of the Interior Yvette Cooper warned that the rates could have a 'harmful impact' on the global economy.

The diplomatic row came when Canada and Mexico ordered stiff counter-shields on their North American neighbor after both were hit with a tax of 25 percent on import. Canadian energy is confronted with a lower load of 10 percent.

Shortly after Mr. Trump signed his executive order on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau answered with 'far -reaching' rates of 25 percent with $ 105 billion (£ 85 billion) of American goods ranging from fruit to alcohol.

“The actions taken today by the White House have split us instead of bringing us together,” said Mr. Trudeau.

On X he later wrote: 'Now it's time to choose products made here in Canada. Check the labels. Let's participate. Wherever we can, choose Canada. '

Former governor of Bank of England, Mark Carney, who is the new leader of the Liberal Party of Mr. Trudeau and therefore PM, Mr. Trump called a 'bully'.

In the meantime, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum – who also ordered retribution rates and other non -known measures – described accusations of the White House that Mexico 'has an unbearable alliance' with drug cartels as 'slander'.

And China – affected by an extra tax of 10 percent on goods – promised 'corresponding countermeasures' and said that it would contract a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization for the 'serious violation' in international law.

The American State Secretary Marco Rubio visited Panama yesterday, where he told President Jose Raul Mulino that his country should immediately reduce Chinese influence on the Panama Canal area or that possible retribution must be confronted.

Mr. Mulino told reporters after the meeting that Mr Rubio “did not make a real threat of reducing the channel or used violence.”

The European Commission promised to 'respond firmly to any trading partner who imposes rates on EU goods unfair or randomly. Despite Canada, Mexico and China, who are good in the US in the US last year, the Trump government believes that its protectionist strategy will stop spreading the deadly opioid fentanyl and push Mexico for the migrant crisis tackle.

The analysis of Yale University, however, estimated that the average American household would lose the equivalent of $ 1,170 (£ 952) in income as a result of the rates.

“But we will make America great again, and it will all be worth the price that must be paid.”

Speaking with the BBCs on Sunday with Laura Kuensberg, Mrs. Cooper said: “Rate is rising right around the world can have a really harmful impact on global growth and trade, so I don't think it's what someone wants to see.”

On LBC radio, Mrs. Cooper refused to say whether Sir Keir Starmer would take revenge if Mr Trump would impose rates at the UK.

“The government will always act in the interest of this country and … the affairs of Great Britain,” she said.
