Officials will reopen their probe in the mysterious death of Ellen Greenberg after the medical investigator had taken back his earlier conclusion that she had died through suicide.
The city of Philadelphia and the Van Greenberg family reached an arrangement on Monday with which the medical researcher will revise her cause of death.
Greenberg, 27, was found dead on the kitchen floor of her apartment in Philadelphia in the middle of a snowstorm on January 26, 2011.
Former assistant Philadelphia Medical Examiner Marlon Osbourne initially ruled her death as a murder, but changed it into suicide after a meeting with the police and prosecutors.
Osbourne has since admitted in a sworn statement that he should not have ruled Greenberg's death.
“It is my professional opinion that Ellen's way of death should be referred to as something other than suicide,” Dr. Osbourne in the submission.
Osbourne said that the determination was taken after he became aware of new information that questioned the first statement.
'For example, whether Ellen's fiancé was seen who entered the apartment before he placed the 9-1-1 call on January 26, 2011; whether the door was open as reported; And if Ellen's body was moved by someone else in the apartment with her on or near the time of her death, “Osbourne wrote.
