A British fraudist who was the subject of a Netflix documentary after he had used cunning lies to mislead women from cash, could spend 10 years behind bars after he had “deliberately” running down two French police officers.
Robert Hendy-Freegard, 53, will be tried in Gueret on Thursday for the alleged incident that took place in August 2022, reports French media.
The Conman is accused of bringing his Audi A3 into the police while escaping from his hiding place in the rural village of Vidaillat in the sparsely populated Creuse region in Central France.
Labor inspectors accompanied by police officers had carried out an inspection at the Beagle-Bruing company Hendy-Feegard ran on 25 August 2022 with his withdrawn partner Sandra Clifton.
“While the police asked one of the partners to accompany them to the nearest station, the person started his vehicle and hit two officers before fled,” said the police in the Creuse region at the time.

The Brit then flee for eight days before it was arrested in Belgium.

As he became more confident, Hendy-Freegard controlled five victims at the same time, so that they were kept in various 'safe houses' throughout the country and used a mixture of charm and threat to keep them under his enchantment.
His crimes always started in the same way. He would meet victims on social occasions or as customers in the pub or car dealer where he was working.
He would later reveal his 'role' as an undercover agent for MI5, special branch or Scotland Yard who worked against the IRA. He would win them, ask for money and have them offered.
Then he demanded that she cut the contact with family and friends, go through 'loyalty tests' and live alone in bad conditions.

He met his partner Clifton, a dog breeder in 2012 on a dating app, and the couple held 26 Beagles in their house in Vidaillat until his arrest.
Clifton's children from an earlier relationship claim that Hendy-Freegard had convinced their mother that he is a secret agent and checks her.
