The Brussels police were looking for two shooters on Wednesday after shots were fired outside a metro station, whereby the authorities said that there was “no indication of a terrorist motive.”
A police spokeswoman said that Schoten were heard around 6:00 am outside the Clemenceau train station near the city center.
Surveillance images obtained by Omroep RTBF showed two masked people who wore automatic guns outside the metro, with at least one repeated shots.
The suspects fled the metro and entered tunnels that ran under one of the most important train stations in the city, she added.
“An important search operation was launched after the available video surveillance images showed two suspects who fled in the metro tunnels,” prosecutors said in a statement.
“At this stage there is no indication of a terrorist motive for this shooting.”
The Brussels transport authorities said that Clemenceau and the nearby Midi Metro station were closed by the police order and the traffic on two lines were interrupted.
