A man is accused of spraying the painting of anti -Semitic graffiti in the house of a famous Jewish family before he attacked a passer -by trying to intervene.

The 68-year-old from Macedon, northwest of Melbourne, was arrested after he would have painted the Star of David on the fence in Middle Park in Middle Park in Middle Park in the south of the city on Friday evening.

When another man confronted him, he threw a pack of bacon at him and spit on him, the police claim.

The Ster of David was historically used by Jews to represent their identity, but during the Nazi regime it was also used to mark Jewish people on their clothing or shop fronts.

'There is absolutely no place at all in our society for anti-Semitic or hatred symbols and behavior. The police will always seriously deal with reports of such crime, “said a spokesperson for the Victoria police.

Mayor of Port Phillip Louise Crawford sent a council team on Saturday to paint over the graffiti and said that the close Jewish community of the area was still faltering of a arson attack in the Adass Israel Synagogue in nearby Ripponlea.

“Although this incident is fortunately not a physical injury, it is still a cowardly attack aimed at the Jewish community of Port Phillip,” she said.

“We want the community to know that we remain with you and condemn any anti -Semitic activity in our city.”

Port Phillip detectors accused the man on Tuesday of criminal damage, illegal attack and marking of attacking graffiti. He received a bail to appear at the Hof van Melbourne Magistrate on 6 May.

It is the last in a series of anti -Semitic attacks in Australia.

Cars are set on fire, a synagogue burned out and anti-Jewish blot on buildings and cars in Sydney and Melbourne in incidents that have been escalated in frequency and seriousness since December

Israeli ambassador in Australia Amir Maimon denounced the incidents on X and described them as a 'continuous barrage of attacks' and 'deliberate intimidation' against Jews.

The most shocking was the apparent discovery in NSW of a caravan loaded with explosives.

The caravan was full of enough explosives for an explosion of 40 meters and was left for 12 days on a semi-national road in Dural in Northwest Sydney before he was discovered on January 19 with a letter with anti-Semitic sentiments and mentioned 'Jewish entities, says the Police.

The discovery led to a study with multiple authorities with more than 100 terrorism fighting officers.

The coalition has called for compulsory prison sentences for those who commit terrorism media or show hate symbols.
