The police started an investigation after a suitcase with human remains has been drawn from a river in New York.
The shocking discovery was made yesterday around 5.30 pm near Governor's Island after officers found the piece of luggage from the East River, according to the port unit of the New York Police Department.
The suitcase was taken for research, but it was not immediately clear whether the remains that were of a man or a woman.
However, officers confirmed that the victim was an adult.
The age of the victim and their cause of death were also not known as on Thursday morning, and it was unclear how long the suitcase had been in the river.
The police have opened an investigation, while a medical investigator works to determine a cause of death.
Images from the scene showed researchers who investigated the suitcase after it was picked up from the water.
