Missing Alaska airplane vanishes mid-air sparking search for survivors: Live updates

The small plane traveled on Thursday evening from Unalautleet to Nome in West -Alaska when it disappeared from Radars.

Exact coordinates for the aircraft are still being set up, where the coast guard is used to the area in specialized equipment that 'objects and people can find through no visibility conditions', officials said.

Authorities said their last known contact with the pilot was when he told Anchorage Air Traffic Control that he was planning to 'enter a holding pattern' while waiting for the runway to be cleared.

It is understanding that the plane was 12 miles off the coast when the contact was lost.

According to data from Flighttradar, the plane – a Cessna 208b – was last seen on the Norton sound at 3.16 pm.

Unalauweet is a small coastal area on the west side of Alaska.

Authorities have warned well-intended members of the Piblic not to participate in the search for the missing Bering plane due to heavy weather conditions.

“We ask the public to think of those who may be missing at the moment, but because of weather and safety problems are not individual search parties,” said the voluntary fire brigade of Nome.

“Families are encouraged to seek support at Norton Sound Health Corporation.”
