An Aussie couple is stranded in Las Vegas about what a romantic holiday should be after a rare life-threatening diagnosis.
Rachel Hodgkinson, 53, and Darryl Kelcey, 56, both seemed to be in good health when they arrived in Los Angeles on January 20.
The Adelaide pair then traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate Mr. Kelcey's 56th birthday and their tenth wedding anniversary.
The celebrations were called in on January 30 after Mrs. Hodginson slid in the shower of their hotel room.
The pharmacy assistant and supporting employee, who had not used the toilet for five days, came out yellow.
Her concerned husband said she couldn't understand what he said if he could tell him what was wrong.
“She was weak, vibrated, could not hold her own body weight, could not get up, so I helped her to the bed,” Mr. Kelcey told the advertiser.
He initially feared that she was suffering from a stroke.

Rachel Hodgkinson, 53, and Darryl Kelcey, 56, arrived on January 20 in Los Angeles before a life -threatening fight with poisonous shock ruined their vacation
She was rushed to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she ended in intensive care after she deteriorated to a non-verbal non-communicative state.
Doctors told a tormented Lord Kelcey that his wife had 'poisonous shock', a rare and potentially life -threatening bacterial infection.
Toxins had built up in her body and sent her into a state of delusions.
Mr. Kelcey said his wife did not know who she was or where she was and feared that she would not survive.
“I thought this is not happening, she was in such a bad way,” he remembered.
Eleven days later, Mrs. Hodgkinson is still in the hospital, where she is expected to stay for another fourteen days.
She has recovered a brain function, can speak clearly and identify herself and her husband.
Mr. Kelcey is bracing himself for a huge hospital account that he fears he might never be able to pay off.

The travel insurance of the couple refused to cover the treatment of Mrs. Hodgkinson, her husband claimed.
Family friend Savannah Parry has organized a fundraising for the couple hoping to illuminate the financial burden for the couple.
“Her partner is struggling to pay and travel the hospital bills to get her home,” she wrote online.
“He is extremely stressed. Please help Rachel to come home and return to her family in a well -known environment. '
Mr. Kelcey gave a heart -warming update about fundraising on Monday to say that his wife improves daily.
“Doctors do everything to get her good enough to fly home,” he added.
