Famous chef and restaurant owner Margarita Forés died at the age of 65.
Forés was no longer responded to her hotel room in Hong Kong after missing a lunch meeting, according to Manila Standard.
Her son Amado confirmed her death in a post to his social media and wrote: 'Dear friends and family, it is with a tough heart that I share the sudden death of my mother, Margarita A. Forés.
'Our family mourns this unexpected loss and we kindly ask for your prayers today. We will be able to share more in due course. With gratitude Amado. '
Forés was named Asia's best female chef of 2016 after a decision about a career in the culinary world despite training as a public accountant.
She opened her first restaurant in 1997, Cibo, which serves Italian food. It now has more than 20 different locations in the Philippines.
Recent messages on her Instagram show she depicted her with colleague -famous chef -chef Gordon Ramsay.
She had developed her love for Italian food while working in New York, and trained in Italy before launching Cibo.

In New York she was led to the Marymount School and Mount Holyoke College, but returned to the Philippines to complete her degree in accountancy.
After she was chatted in the financial world, she returned to New York, where she reportedly rubbed shoulders with people like John F. Kennedy JR, according to Pep.
Pushed by the death of her grandfather in 1985, she sought a career change and told Rogue in 2016: “They say that when major changes take place in a family, it is a chance for other members to make changes in their lives.”
The next year she left for Italy to sharpen her vessel in Cooking Italian. Returning to the Philippines with her new skills and immediately opened a catering company.
In 1997 she launched Cibo and told Esquire that she wanted to give the will of Tgifridays and Hard Rock Cafe a run for their money.
She told the outlet in 2016: 'I remember that when I started with Cibo in 1997, I was merging the concept, I was very clear: I wanted it to be in a shopping center.
'I wanted it to offer value for money and I wanted the food to be really authentic – the way they do it in Italy.
'At the same time, I also wanted it to be able to offer a concept that was from home -made, made by a Filipin.
