Donald Trump has accused Australia of ignoring his position at 25 percent rates on aluminum and steel.
The American president accused Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of early that Australia had received an exemption from broad import tasks when he signed an executive order.
“The volume of the American import of primary aluminum from Australia has also risen and in 2024 there was about 103 percent higher than the average volume for 2015 to 2017,” said his proclamation.
“Australia has its verbal commitment to voluntarily limit his aluminum export.”
In a sign of more volatile relations, President Trump had previously suggested that Australia could be exempted after he had spoken with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese by telephone earlier today.
“I told him that that is something we will give great attention to,” said Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump also called Mr. Albanese a 'very nice man', and said that the trade surplus of Australia with the United States brought the country into a good position.
“We have a surplus with Australia. One of the few. And the reason is that they buy many aircraft. They are quite far away and they need many planes. We actually have a surplus, “said the president.

Donald Trump has accused Australia of ignoring his position at 25 percent rates on aluminum and steel
Mr Albanese told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday that he had submitted Australia to get an exemption based on the United States with a trade surplus with Australia.
“I presented Australia's case for an exemption and we have agreed to formulate publicly, namely that the US President agreed that an exemption was considered in the interest of both of our countries,” said the prime minister.
In 2018, Australia received an exemption of 25 percent American rates for steel and 10 percent import tax on aluminum after the then Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull Out pointed them from us.
