A shocking list of requirements for women who want to work as flight attendants in the 1950s has become viral.
Hundreds of social media users responded to a list posted on Reddit this week of 19 'qualifications' women have to be a stewardess in 1954 for the nowed chicago and Southern Air Lines.
Various requirements were aimed at the physical characteristics of a candidate, including her height, weight, skin and teeth.
Potential stewardesses had to be between 100 and 120 pounds, have a 'good figure' and 'slim legs', 'beautiful hands' and 'good carriage'.
The airline also stated that its flight attendants have the ability to continue a lively conversation and “be prepared and anxious to please.”
“Willing and anxious to please” WTF? – Something that feels so manipulative, “a commentator replied.
“This reads like a bunch of guys sitting around a typewriter with one of those who occasionally say:” Oh and don't forget ______, “” another added.
'In a surprising progressive turn of events, accepting the civil status, the natural appearance, etc. is in fact super illegal', in a third chimed.

Several responded with stories about family members or acquaintances who, according to them, were stewardesses at the time.
It was explained that their mother was obliged to follow a strict diet, weigh and measure daily, and was encouraged to smoke while she was stewardess in 1964.
'They were told how to walk, including the old' Stack of books on the head 'Walking Test', the user continued.
'Walk down the stairs with legs and feet sideways. Gracefully everything. Impeccable ways. That is what it meant that they were meant by the carriage. '
Another explained that their mother received the job with only a high school education, despite the list that 'requires college or two years of college and two years of business experience'.
'My mother managed to come in because she was very beautiful and smart. She was 19, nothing beyond her HS training, “wrote the person.
'She had a good head on her shoulders, spent their difficult training and stopped after a few years because it was disgusting that passengers and pilots were caught all the time.
More archive images with requirements from other airlines were confirmed to the mail.

Applicants of 'Twa Air Hostess' positions with transcontinental and Western air in 1945 had to be single, between the ages of 21 and 26, between 5'2 and 5'6 tall, and weighs between 100 to 130 pounds.
They also had to follow a year from the university or be a registered nurse.
Former pilot Dan Bubb told Newsweek that the demands of Chicago and Southern Air Lines 'look accurate' and that those standards were normal at the time.
He said that the uniforms of the stewardesses were 'militarily inspired' before he evolved over the years.
“As the decades passed the 1950s and 60s, stewardess -uniforms still looked professional, but they looked more glamorous and feminine and were made by famous clothing designers,” said Bubb.
By the 1970s, the uniforms had clear colors and patterns, he explained, but that faded in the coming years.
“They became more relaxed and practical to match the long shifts and many responsibilities that stewardesses have,” said Bubb.

“They became more relaxed and practical to match the long shifts and many responsibilities that stewardesses have,” said Bubb.
He added that airlines recruited registered nurses, convincing that they could calm passengers who felt sick or uncomfortable during flights.
The former pilot explained that the standards changed because they were 'considered discriminatory'.
“Stewardesses still have to look professionally and dress and stand a rigorous training and tests,” he said, “but the length and weight restrictions have largely disappeared.”
