The driver who injured at least 36 people by ramming a car in a demonstration in Munich yesterday was an Islamist and shouted 'Allahu Akbar' after the horrible attack, the police said today as the details of the attacker arose.
Farhad N., a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, will appear before a judge this afternoon, a day after he drove a mini-Cooper in a crowd of about 1,000 striking unionists.
Gabriele Tilmann, the senior public prosecutor, said that Farhad N. had known during an interrogation to deliberately enter the demonstration. The police said Farhad had an “Islamic orientation”, but was not affiliated with any Islamic groups.
The public prosecutor said he had prayed after he had driven his car in the crowd. A two -year -old child continued to fight for their lives when the car hit a mother who pushed a pram, local media reports.

The attack comes in a sensitive time before the upcoming German election on February 23.

Enamullah O., 28, was arrested near the stage, suspected of attacking a group of children in a park in Aschaffenburg. Two people were killed and three injured, the police said.
