The driver who injured at least 36 people by ramming a car in a demonstration in Munich yesterday was an Islamist and shouted 'Allahu Akbar' after the horrible attack, the police said today as the details of the attacker arose.

Farhad N., a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, will appear before a judge this afternoon, a day after he drove a mini-Cooper in a crowd of about 1,000 striking unionists.

Gabriele Tilmann, the senior public prosecutor, said that Farhad N. had known during an interrogation to deliberately enter the demonstration. The police said Farhad had an “Islamic orientation”, but was not affiliated with any Islamic groups.

The public prosecutor said he had prayed after he had driven his car in the crowd. A two -year -old child continued to fight for their lives when the car hit a mother who pushed a pram, local media reports.

“The suspect came to Germany in 2016 as a non -supported minor and was legal here,” Tilmann said this morning. It was said that he lived in a rented apartment in Munich while he worked like a Detective store. Farhad was born in Kabul in 2001, reports Bild.

The police are still working on discovering a motive for the attack on the demonstration of the Verdi vocational Association. The first findings have not discovered any evidence that the suspect has worked with someone else.

“We will continue to investigate the personality of the perpetrator,” Tilmann said and noted that Farhad would be questioned further after the initial interrogation of two hours. The Bavarian Police will also see the telephone communication of the Farhad.

Early analysis indicates that he had planned the attack in advance; The police discovered in one chat with a family member he said, “I'll be here tomorrow.”

According to the German newspaper Spiegel, Farhad would have uploaded Islamist messages online before crime.

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said that the asylum application from Farhad N. had been rejected in 2016 when he arrived in Germany.

However, he reportedly received a so-called tolerance permit from the German federal office for migration and refugees, which meant that his deportation was suspended until 2023, when he received a residence and work permit until April 2025.

Only a day before, Chancellor Scholz said that Germany would expand its strict border controls that has been set to tackle migration and Islamist terrorism with another six months after their planned expiry date next month.

He mentioned their success and claimed that border controls had led to '47, 000 people who have been reversed at the border so far.

He also mentioned figures that showed that asylum applications had fallen by a third last year from 2023 and that 1,900 people smugglers had been arrested.

In September, the government announced a major action against traffic in the country to tackle what Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser called the “continuous burden” of migration and “Islamist terrorism.”

Enamullah O., 28, was arrested near the stage, suspected of attacking a group of children in a park in Aschaffenburg. Two people were killed and three injured, the police said.

Regional Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann said that the suspect had already come to the attention of the authorities for violent behavior and was referred to psychiatric treatment.

Investigations were underway in the motive behind the attack, although the initial information 'very strong in the direction of his clear mental illness'.

The suspect entered Germany in 2022 and sought in vain asylum. He was meant to have left at the end of last year after he had offered to leave the country voluntarily, Herrmann said.

A search of the suspect's accommodation in an asylum center had “had no proof of a radical Islamist attitude,” where researchers find psychiatric medication instead.

A fellow Afgan refugee who shared a corridor with him said Bild: “I couldn't sleep because of him.”

“He always made noise, drank and listened to loud music.”

Ahmad M., a 28-year-old engineer, said he spoke with Enamullah O., but never understood full sentences of him.

After the attack, the police announced that they had arrested a 26-year-old Syrian refugee as a suspect.
