Yvette Cooper has set up her own unit in Elon Musk style to eradicate waste from the home office.
The 'Doge' division of the Home Secretary has already started freezing contracts that are considered an abuse of the money from the taxpayer.
It is modeled on the Ministry of Government Efficiency of Mr. Musk, who has revised the American civil service. Government sources said the unit 'will investigate and supervise every cent', and although it looks at limiting the use of external consultants.
Expensive 'days' in which external locations are rented, will probably also be prohibited, insiders said. The move comes after the department has hired a lush Central London Balzaal to hold an event for civil servants last month.
A source said: 'We have many spaces that the government owns in Whitehall. These can be used instead of spending money on hiring external locations. '
In a weekly meeting, the doge unit will go through every contract that the Department plans to approve, where they are investigated that seem to be wasting. It will be led by Minister of the Interior Lord Hanson and Damian McBride, a former important assistant of Gordon Brown and an experienced political bruise.
The unit was set up after Mrs. Cooper discovered that the department had reserved £ 3 million in the next three years for digital graphic images and filming a SOHO-based PR agency, as well as £ 100,000 for Deloitte leadership training.
The planned contracts were the 'last drop', said sources, and Mrs. Cooper ordered both to be paused. There is a growing pressure from the treasury for cabinet ministers to find savings in their departments.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to cut her tax headroom before the budget of next month, which increases the chance of cutbacks in the public sector.
Lord Hanson has already carried out two spending reviews that have identified millions of pounds savings that were diverted to support the neighborhood police.
Previously, only contracts of more than £ 5 million would be sent to cancel officials to ministers or their advisers.
But now every contract of each value must be signed by the DOGE team, which held its first meeting last Wednesday, according to sources.

It is already looking at a ban on the use of external headhunters through the home office when fulfilling the departmental roles, and is planning to limit at the end of a financial year to give managers not to 'use'.
A source said that Lord Hanson wanted to reduce this culture and added: 'We live in tax -tense times. We try to stimulate much better planning and management. '
Labor Member of Parliament Jake Richards, who is in the Select Committee of the Interior, said: “It is right that the Minister of the Interior gets a grip, so that more money can be focused on the government's plan for more police and secure limits. '
