A teenager was killed in a freak sled accident when she bumped into a letterbox while she was dragged through an ATV through the snow.
Lily Vanderhoff, 18, rode in the plastic sled while it was pulled by snow -covered streets of Dundee, a rural city in Oregon.
She was almost immediately killed by the collision with one of the different identical metal mailboxes that are stopped by wooden posts along Northeast Hagey Road.
Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliot said that the sled was slid further over the road than intended and got off the road and came to the mailbox on Thursday at 2.38 pm.
Witnesses hurried to Lily's help, but her injuries were 'too serious' and she died by the time paramedics arrived at 3.22 pm.
Lily lived in the neighboring city of Newberg and graduated from the Newberg High School last year, said the school district.

Students and parents were told that her death and counseling were offered support.
Her brother -in -law Chris Logan started a fundraising to pay for her funeral and wrote that the hearts of the family were 'heavy'.
“She brought so much love and light into our lives, and her presence will be missed forever,” he wrote.
Robert Moxley said the collision took place in front of his house.
“This is very difficult for us. It is something we were not prepared for. We did it when we were young. Accidents happen. It's a shame. It will be difficult for our community, “he told local media.
'Try to wear your helmet if you can. Think of things like this. If you have a friend or family member, tell them that you love them. It might be the last time you see them. '
