Cool winds will ensure that the temperature over the southeast of Australia falls while Antarctic winds blow from the southern ocean.
Victoria experienced the coldest February -morning since 1993 on Sunday, with a cold front that is responsible for the ice -cold 5C temperatures.
The system has dumped snow in some parts of Tasmania and Victoria, including Dinner Plain and Mount Buller.
Sub-zero temperatures were also included in parts of New South Wales, the ACT and Tasmania on Monday morning.
The cool air mass is expected to linger for several days this week before warmer temperatures return to the weekend.
“The whole of Southeast -Australia experienced a strong unreasonable cold and a fall in humidity, which made the cool dry air felt all the more lively,” Weatherzone meteorologists wrote.
“The cool air of such systems generally takes a few days to disappear, and mild temperatures will prevail a large part of the working week in the southeast before the heat returns to the weekend.”

Cool wind will ensure that the temperature flashes over the southeast of Australia this week while a pool of cold air blows from the southern ocean (weather sun card above)
