Trump's frustrations with Ukraine can be traced back on the early days of his political career when Paul Manafort – the former chairman of the Presidential Campaign of Trump 2016 – became entangled in a Ukrainian corruption scandal.

Trump asked his Ukrainian counterpart to open an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who received tens of thousands of dollars on monthly payments from Burisma – a large Ukrainian gas company that was investigated for corruption.
