A woman who picks up her cousin's children is confronted with execution because he would have drowned one of them during a failed 'baptism'.
Nakia Nash Nicole Martin, 39, is accused of capital murder after Klover Miyanee Symphonee Hawkins, 4, died on 8 September 2023.
Klover's mother Terria Martin left her three children with her cousin in her house at Courtland Circle in Klein, on the outskirts of Houston, when she was gone.
Terria and Martin were raised under the same roof in Gary, Indiana, before moving to Houston and Martin to Muncie, Indiana.
Terria traveled to Gary and Martin flew in to take care of the children.
The night that Klover died, the two women talked in Facetime and Terria saw all children in the same bathtub, according to judicial documents.
Children who survived that they were forced under the water told both the police and the Terria that Martin put 'blessing oil' on their necks and tried to baptize them.
However, when she tried to do the same with Klover, “something happened … The devil” and Martin deliberately tried to drown her, a child claimed.

The older girl described how Martin reportedly kept Klover under water while struggling for air, and Martin threatened her with 'Hell' when she told someone.
Instead, Martin claimed to investigators that she brought the children to bed after their bath and woke up the next morning to find Klover dead, with foam around her mouth.
She insisted that “she was not going to kill this baby” and dressed her after removing her from the bathtub.
Klover's family said that paramedics were only called on September 9 until noon on September 9 and found her in full Rigor Mortis.
An autopsy confirmed that clover drowned and found great bruises on her body.
Terria flew back to Houston and, after the body was released, had to drive to Gary with Klover's body in the trunk of her car, with her other children in the passenger seats, for the funeral, Family said.
“I would like to give my baby a very deserving home and cemetery,” she wrote in a fundraising at the time.

Reportedly, Martin went hiding and was arrested last December in Delaware County, Indiana and was extradited to Houston.
She was accused of capital murder on December 6, almost 15 months after Klover died and is held in the prison of Harris County.
Terria married Darryl Hawkins in Gary on 29 May 2021, but it is unclear why he was not there to take care of the children instead of Martin.
Martin made three religiously soaked Facebook messages in the early hours of the morning only five days before Klover died.
“So happy that he is a forgiving God and really gives us the chance to do it right,” concluded the last one.
Another very long post told how a child in her neighborhood in Gary told her that a man had a gun and tried to shoot a squirrel.
