Doctors who change gender will receive new registration data that 'scrubbing' their public disciplinary history from the record, it was claimed last night.
Patients are usually able to search the official register of the General Medical Council (GMC) using the name and number of their doctor.
But it has now emerged that Trans -doctors get new songs, which means that future patients are unable to find details that are mentioned under their previous identity.
The revelation came after the concern was expressed that Trans Medic Dr. Beth Upton – which is currently central in an employment tribunal – had received a new registration number, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The GMC said that Dr. Upton is one of the 62 that has received a new registration with another GMC number – that it is equivalent to the professional fingerprint of a doctor.
It appears on all their paperwork, including training, reviews, regulations, rehabilitation and complaints.
The previous male identity of Dr. Upton is still in the medical register, but there are no external ties with its new entry that is visible to the public. The old entry says that her registration to be a doctor in April 2023 was 'given up', without visible reference to this on her current record. There is no suggestion Dr. Upton has previously had to deal with disciplinary action.
The GMC does not require doctors to 'provide any proof of your change in gender status', which means that a female patient who asks a female doctor will not know whether their medicine is born male.

A spokesperson for GMC said: 'If a doctor has received a historical sanction [i.e. the suspension is no longer in place] Prior to the transition, this information would not be available on their new public record in the register. '
These sanctions can include formal warnings and confirmed suspensions – which are usually visible on the public report for years.
However, the GMC emphasized that there is no risk that a doctor who is removed can change their gender and register again.
Helen Joyce, of sex -critical charity care sex is important, made the decision to hand out new registrations.
She said: 'There are extremely serious implications for the GMC that publishes new songs – essentially new identities. There are a whole series of personal, religious or cultural reasons for a woman to be seen by a biological female doctor. Patients have the right to say that they only want to see a doctor of one sex.
“You can't present” on paper “as a woman and expect patients to look for the raw end of the process in the advisory space.”
The GMC insisted that the details of doctors are linked internally before and after their transition.
It said that the lack of public connections between data is “because there are clear legal protections that are offered to persons transferring” and that it “relates to the disclosure of their personal information.”
Sarah Vine, a KC in Doughty Street Chambers, said: 'There is a strong public interest to know the disciplinary history of a doctor. It is very difficult to claim that the privacy of a doctor can ignore that. '
The registration -returns in the midst of an employment tribunal that was brought by nurse Sandie Peggie, who was suspended in January 2024 after he objected to Dr. Upton with a female dressing room.
A hearing is planned by NHS FIFE in accusations of misconduct against Mrs. Peggie, including claims that they are Dr. Upton 'wrong'. The GMC was contacted for comment.
