Governor Janet Mills van Maine received a tense verbal dispute with President Trump for opposition to his executive order on transgender athletes – while the two threats and counter -threats traded on money and lawsuits.

Trump threatened to draw the federal financing of the schools of her state after she said she would resist his 5 February.
“You can do better because you are not going to get federal financing,” Trump told her.

Trump embraced the threat and told Mills that the case would be 'an easy' and be threatening that it would be a career for her.
It was a stunning deviation from the meeting, where Republican Governors offered unsolicited praise and Trump said he would abolish the Education Department and beat her financing by half.
The exchange came hours after Trump was in the threat in a formal speech to the Republican Governors Association.
“Everyone here from Maine?” Trump asked the RGA during his speech.
“They still say that they want men to play in the sports sports and I can't believe they do that … So we're not going to give them federal financing until they clean it up.”

In a Friday statement, Mills said that her state “will not be intimidated by the president's threats.”
“If the president tries to unilaterally deprive Maine school children from the benefit of federal financing, my administration and the attorney general will take all appropriate and necessary legal steps to restore that financing and the academic opportunity it offers,” she said, Maine Morning Star reported.
The AG of the State said that all financing coupling would be “illegal and in the direct violation of the orders of the federal court.”
