It is a story about a child who, without attention, turns to a life of small crime and truancy.
Now, Trainspotting -star Ewan McGregor's daughter Clara has cited the 1959 film when the 400 blows as the film that led her through her 'rebellious' teenage years.
It follows the teenage player Antoine Doinel as he skips the school in Paris, runs away from his unfortunate house and steals his indifferent parents, a typewriter, is caught by the police and ends in the reform school.
Mrs. McGregor, 29, said the film gave her a 'rich perspective' about 'family dynamics' – and later inspired her to act, just like her famous father.
In an interview with Cultured Magazine, Mrs. McGregor was asked to name a film that brought her through an important moment into her life.
She said: 'The 400 strokes, directed by François Truffaut, comes up immediately in me. I looked at it for the first time when I was about eight.
'It not only gave me a rich perspective on youth, family dynamics and teenage uprising, but more generally on making films.
'Jean-Pierre Léaud's performance was brilliant. I not only remember that I was not only moved by his talent, but that I was inspired to pursue acting in the hope that [I could] One day be as good as he was.
