On Friday evening, two police officers in Virginia Beach were shot dead during a traffic stop.
The police confirmed their death by a statement on social media and said that the tragedy is being investigated. The identities of the officers have not yet been released.
“We are devastated to confirm the death of two of our officers, who were shot late in the service last night,” said the statement.
The police of Virginia Beach confirmed that there was no 'active threat', but could not share further information because of the active investigation.
“We ask for your patience and understanding while we work to put together the documents of this tragic event, to make reports and mourn the loss of two of ourselves,” concluded the statement.
The shooting was reportedly at the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Wendfield Drive near an apartment complex around 11.30 pm.

VBPD spokesperson Jody Saunders told WTKR: “VBPD is currently investigating a shooting that has led to the tragic loss of one of our own and the serious injury to another.”
Hours later the second officer would have succumbed to his injuries.
“It is with deep regret that I ask you that the second officer in the shooting last night this morning was weaving to his wounds,” Saunders told the outlet.
Congresswoman Jen Kiggans wrote on X: “This morning our entire community mourns the tragic loss of two good Virginia Beach -Politiemen who were killed in line last night.”

A press conference will be held this afternoon by Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudiate and Mayor Bobby Dyer.
